To move files to your Google Drive, follow the steps below. This example shows you how to move files from your Desktop to your Google Drive.
Please check your desktop and downloads folders and make sure you move all the files you wish to keep.
Several of the steps below reference the Finder icon. The Finder icon is located in the dock on your screen. The Finder icon is shown below.
- Choose the folder that is already in your Google Drive that you want to move files to, or make a new folder in your Google Drive to move the files to. This folder will be referred to as the destination folder.
- Open a Finder window showing your Google Drive and ensure the destination folder is visible (below left, titled Google Drive).
- Open a second Finder window showing the file(s) you want to move (below right, titled Desktop).
- Drag and drop the files (one or many at a time) to the destination folder in your Google Drive.
- If you receive a warning message like the one below, click the affirmative. In this screenshot, you would click confirm.
Troubleshooting
Problem: I do not see the Google Drive icon in Finder.
Resolution: Go to the menu bar and click the Google Drive icon. You may need to sign in. Once you do that, the Google Drive icon should appear in Finder, and you can continue the instructions above.
Problem: I do not see the Google Drive icon on the menu bar.
Resolution: Click the Finder icon to open Finder. In Finder, click on Applications, launch the Google Drive app, and follow the on-screen instructions. Once you do that, the Google Drive icon should appear in Finder, and you can continue the instructions above.
